Title: RE: Palm Pilot Devices
The Blackberry is a great, easy to use, simple to understand tool for sales drones and the like.  I don't think I would put it in the same class as a pocket PC, for most of the reasons spelled out in this thread.  It is not as multi-functional as a PocketPC, it is really only designed to receive wireless email.  The fact that the messages are pushed to it is a big plus for some of the more technology-challenged users I have (those that have to put "lunch" on their calendar to remind them to eat).

Is it the right tool to admin your network while sitting on a lounge chair on the beach in Maui?, no.  Will it deliver email and meeting requests to the VP of sales while he's on the 12th fairway during a "business meeting"?, absolutely.

I've got an BB server with about 20 users, which we've been running for about 18 months now - please feel free to pm me if you have any questions when you get it.

Thanks for scaring me guys.  I just ordered the server, BB software and 5 units.  I will say this much though:  I have talked to MANY IT people and most of them swear that Blackberry is one of the greatest Email "toys" ever invented.  Guess I will see...

No I mean create a meeting request.

Either way I have used a Blackberry and frankly hate then. The only tech item I have come to hate. They are being sold via lots of misinformation.

Sure...with the Wireless Calendar conduit in version 2.1 (I believe) of the client software you can respond to meeting requests and update your calendar.

I agree with Robert's assessment of Palm and Pocket PC (Pocket PC 2002 looks pretty sweet from what I saw at MAC).

What about a Blackberry?  He can carry a fully functional copy of his Outlook with him.

OPINION:

Palm= Ancient garbage.

Pocket PC is a NASA Skunkworks device compared to a Palm.

BUT:  Pocket PC is heavier, battery life is far shorter.  If he is only doing simple stuff (text email) Palm might be the way to go.

Pocket PC Native:

Word
Outlook
Excel
PowerPoint
IE (FULL not clipping)
Voice recorder
Natural handwriting
VPN

PS  A Windows NT forum is a better place for this post...

This is a bit off topic, but the company president is looking to buy a
hand held electronic scheduler/calendar.  He will be using Outlook 2000 on
his desktop and would like something that will interface with OL 2000.  I
would  appreciate any suggestions from the list, since I am not
experienced in the Palm Pilot technology.

Thanks in advance,

JRiley
