I am not sure why the public folder is important.

We use Win2K, Exchange2K with Active Directory. I have then created an
OU to store the external contacts. When I add contacts to the OU, they
automatically show up in the Global Address Book which is available by
Outlook or OWA.

Subject: External Corporate Contact List Exchange 2000

I am trying to create a corporate contact list of external contacts in
Exchange 2000. I've setup a public folder and assigned one of our users
to be the gatekeeper to add external contacts. This works great because
all of the users have access to the public folder even if using OWA.
However, I can't seem to set address checking to look through the public
folder, so my users have to manually lookup a contact and add it to the
message.

I can't be the only one trying to solve this. 8^)>
