How do you do a remote recovery with NTBackup? [this simply means that you have the machine with the tape drive and want to do backup to an Exchange Server that is on another location, local backup is just having the tape drive in the same server where Exchange Server resides.] Or maybe I should ask. If you do remote backups of Exchange Server, with NTBackup, how do you do a recovery to any one or more of these Exchange Servers with NTBackup? [Once you have successful backup, the information store and directory can be restored to the same Exchange Servers where the backup was performed from before OR any other Exchange Servers, during the restore process, NTBackup will let you choose those options.] Have you performed a "Real" or "Test" recovery with NTBackup, from a backup that was performed remotely? [Since the beginning of this post, I have tried my Exchange Server at home and it works beautifully! To stimulate a disaster for this Exchange Server, I deleted the following files: \exchsvr\DSADATA\* \exchsvr\MDBDATA\* And the restore brought everything in these folders back....hence Exchange Server is once again working! Everyone feel free to comment. As it seems to me, that with out some sort of shared drive between the backup file (lets say it is a tape device on this machine) and NTBackup, to a remote Exchange Server. It will perform an online backup of Exchange. I think 2000 is the same. I'm not sure if this can be done remotely without the Veritas version. We have Arcserve 2000 and I am hesitant to use their Exchange Backup Agent because of it is a pain to work with.
