What is the OST size? Does this occur when not in cached mode? Number of items in the mailbox? I just had a user with 20,000 items in a folder, most with attachments. The OST grew to 26GB... yes, you read that right. Outlook choked. Once I moved that folder out to a PST and closed it, Outlook returned to normal. The symptoms are similar, but not exact to what you describe.
