Mapped drives exist within the user session.
We ran into that issue with BackupExec which runs as a service - you can't back up to mapped drives (which screwed us a little for the non iSCSI NAS) because they don't exist for the service. Would it not be easier to just connect it as an iSCSI device and mount it as if it were a local disk? Your SAN software should handle the ownership of the disk etc for multiple machines connecting. @Steve - can you come round and figure out why the refrigerator light stays off when I open the door? I don't think it will work. Here is the question... Are network drives still mapped when you log off of the server? I don't think so. I have a question for the peanut gallery.. What are the thoughts on running an MS Exchange message store from a mapped drive. We have a scenario that the client has a iSCSI SAN that currently does not have a direct connection to the desired MS Exchange server. Thoughts???
