What permissions do you speak of? I don't mean to actually open the mailbox, 
just to get it resolve to a hidden entry in the GAL.

I just tested on Outlook 2010 (granted, with an Exchange 2010 backend), and it 
worked fine.

Obviously - you have to have permissions...

I'm going to take this thread on a tangent, especially since it seems to have 
died from the original question.

I am unable to add/open mailboxes using Outlook 2010 by using a 
legacyExchangeDN. It works great in Outlook 2007. Am I missing something? The 
error (as I recall) is a generic "Unable to find mailbox".

That is no different than it was in Exchange 2003.

If a mailbox is "hidden from Exchange address lists" then you have two choices:

[a] unhide it temporarily to add it
[b] use the legacyExchangeDN to map the mailbox

That's it.
