I’d agree with all the other points but the interview stage seems a bit harder than that. My wife recently got a one year visa so we could attend a conference in the States but many of the other people were turned away. One woman she was in the queue with was 39, with children and a husband in Russia. The official didn’t like the idea that she was travelling alone. He also repeatedly questioned my wife about her work and our business over here. He seemed to indicate that they would not give visas for professionals who wanted to travel in the US (esp. computer people) as there was a high chance they would be looking for a job. Still nothing can possibly be as hard to obtain as a Russian work visa. I’ve just had my university record legalised by the FCO office in London so it can be DHL’ed back here for notification/translation. They are demanding that work visas for those at a professional level are backed up with educational evidence (I did try to tell them otherwise Human Resources but they are adamant). You don’t need educational support for ‘standard’ jobs. For example working on a building site or even being a web designer/computer operator but when I tried to apply under these categories (rather than consultant) they told us there were locals who could fit that job description. In order to get a quota position for a foreigner you need to prove that local Russians can not be employed first. Best Regards, Nick CEO e3internet http://www.e3internet.com
