One of your fellow expats has a new book out - "Russia Becomes You" An expat
since 1995, many of you know me from Suzdal where my wife Nastia and I rent
vacation homes.

I honestly think you will enjoy reading "Russia Becomes You," as will the
people "back home" who really don't understand our life here or need to read
about Russia from a different perspective than that of the mainstream media.
Here are some reviews of "Russia Becomes You" by Russians whose opinion I
most value:

Once a prosperous man, he lost everything but his brain and his experience. At
50 years old Jeffrey Wilgus started a new life in Russia during the tumultuous
Yeltsen years. The chronicle of this adventure Russia Becomes You places a
tender embrace on the "unwashed face" of Russia. It's an incredible story that
can be enjoyed by Russians as well as Westerners.

Ivan Tourguenev one of the greatest Russian novelists of the 19th century once
stated, "There is only one good thing with a Russian person and that is his
worst opinion of himself"

Unfortunately the tradition of thinking that way hasn't changed among my
compatriots and myself, and many American authors are eager to follow it.
Jeffrey Wilgus went his way to discover his own Russia and managed not being a
professional narrator, to write both a wonderful story of the "dangerous land"
inhabitants and a fairytale love story. It covers the years of the Yeltsen era
which brought Russia to the democratic freedoms which we Russians
underestimate, perhaps because of the same lame reason - in private we are too
much used to caress the worst opinion of ourselves.

Fancying the title, I wish I could say "Russia becomes me," and I believe it's
worth publishing this book in Russian just to warm the Russian hearts of good
news about them.
