Dear Charles,

If the Shengen visas (Italian and German) have expired, there is no need to
annule these, from what you wrote Italian visas have definitely expired.

If the German visa is still in force, it can be used to enter France until
it expires provided that there was the previous and first visit with entry
into Shengen zone via Germany (and the days of visits have not been used
during previous visits). If she hasn't used the visa to enter Germany
before, she has to fly to Germany first and then continue the trip to France
by i.e. train.

This may mean that you will have to travel separately, and if you still want
to travel all together your wife will have to annule the German visa at the
German consulate and then apply for the French visa together with her
mother.

Some hints for the French visa:

1. Hotel reservations or formal invites with adresses of stay during the
trip are the must - for the whole trip
2. Every traveller has to present individual bank account records (no cash,
no credit cards...) showing something like 50 Euro per day of the stay or
more
3. Ticket reservations also a must.
4. Travel insurance should be issued by a known company, i.e. Ingosstrakh
with a minimum coverage of 30K Euro

If you apply via the Visa Centre, it takes 4 working days but they charge
extra for document processing. The good thing is that they advise what
documents should be added if the applicant misses something and let bring
the missing before they send documents to the Consulate (by 4 pm). This also
means that the applicant should book the visit to the Visa Centre in the
morning.

Subject: Expat List Shengen visa advice

My family is planning a trip to France. Two of us have US passports but my
wife and her mother have Russian. They have previously received Shengen
visas (one year) three years ago from Italy. The French website says that we
should get previous Shengen visas annulled at the prior consulate(s) -
there's also a German Shengen visa in my wife's passport.

I am unclear if because we got the visas from the Italian consulate before
if we are to apply there again, or if we should get from French consulate
(since that is where we will go now.

Can anyone clarify this situation.
Thanks in advance for advice.
Charles
