Hi Nick, Prior to purchasing a bike here in Moscow last summer I (or I should say my Russian wife) called the Militsia and asked them.
You are able to ride on your (in my case Australian) licence as long as you have a Translated, Notarised copy of your licence with you at all times, you can use it for 3 months, after 3 months you need to get a Russian Licence however if you leave the country and return before the 3 months is up the clock starts all over again. I also have copies of the bikes ownership document, insurance and registration documents. I had cause to show my licence and other relevant bike related documents to the Militsia twice last summer (just spot checks, no incidents) and both times they were satisfied with the documents I produced, were quite friendly, courteous and professional and sent me on my way. Hope this helps, Tony -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Nick Hodgkins Sent: Friday, 4 June 2010 11:35 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Expat List Motorbike Riding in Russia with a UK Licence? Does anyone know if you can one ride a motorbike freely in Russia on a UK motorbike licence, or do the authorities insist on some local documentation, as they do for car drivers' licences?
