It's not exactly the same thing but in my iPhone4 I use the SlovoEd dictionary which translates with a quick four gestures, effectively skipping the pasting process. While reading news (for example from the lenta.ru app) you can highlight a Russian word by touching the word, waiting for it to autoselect and copy using the pop-up menu. Then I use the app-switch feature by double-tapping the button to bring up the list of recently used apps and then select the dictionary which automatically looks up any word in the "copy" cache. It's quite speedy if you get it set up right. (I don't know if it's defaulted for this function however.) On a 4GS I'd imagine it'd take about a second with practiced fingers. Plus you get the bonus of quickly adding the word to a flash-card list which you can drill later.

Now only if they had an app to minimize my American accent I'd be gold. :)

Hope this helps!

There are a few Russian-to-English dictionary apps available, but might anyone know if there exists one that gives a dictionary definition (the English for a Russian word) by just pressing and holding the (Russian) word, much like what happens if you press and hold an English word (and get the English dictionary entry).

Copying and pasting - seems cumbersome...

Thanks,
