Try the ppp-2.3.7-3mdk.i386.rpm I made. It is located in
ftp.linux-mandrake.com/pub/updates/test/RPMS

Note that you have to reconfigure your ppp after installing that rpm. The only
difference between the original package and this one is that the pid-file is
located in /var/run.
