If you type
 cdrecord -scanbus
what is the output? 

I can't get cdrecord to see my atapi cdrw. 

Here is what lsmod looks like:

sg                     15660   0 
ide-scsi                7520   0 
scsi_debug              4988   0 

So, I have the scsi emulator installed.
