*sigh* I had forgotten that. 

X needs restarted when you change the hostname (only work around i know
is with xauth, thats secure that is) You can try adding it as an alias for
127.0.0.1 in etc/hosts but i've also forgotten the exactly howto make that
work (specificly wether it works or not), as i've had a dedicated
connection long before i had the cablemodem
