I will certainly try that next time this happens?

I have never had a inetd daemon die before. 
I would be curious what the causative factors might be.?
I recently "commented in" everything and could this be the problem?
What to open up without too many security risks?

This is pretty much a 24/7 , static IP cable-modem connection.
