This issue has been solved already in the list. Don't remember who solved it. I
used the solution which is:
Uninstall the XFree...: rpm -e XFree..... rpm -ivh XFree... again (... stands
for the version) and do a XF86Setup  from scratch. A crude solution but it
wipes out wrong links made especially when you switch desktops. It worked for
me. By the way; I do not switch desktops so much any more.
