I accidentally installed LM 7.1 with hd optimisations enabled; my BIOS
doesn't support DM. Now I'm getting occasional freezes following a
kernel message saying that it has disabled DMA and reset IDE. I have
tried changing the DMA settings using Webmin and hdparm: I get an
instant freeze. I have tried using hdparm in single user mode - same
problem. I have tried commenting out the section in
/etc/rc.d/init.d/mandrake_everytime that enables hd optimisations -
but hdparm /dev/hda still shows that /dev/hda has DMA enabled.
HELP! How do I disable DMA?

Thanks,

Tom
