Really?  That's somewhat hard to believe, so I would be happiest if you
could please post the output of this line:

ls -lasi /dev | grep `ls -lasi /dev/cdrom | awk '{ print $1 }'`
ls -lasi /dev/cdrom

I'd be really interested in the output!
