As someone said before, have you upgraded mandrake_desk and menu before 
starting. when installing kdebase or any other package with an extra devel 
package it will say that the older kdebase-devel is dependent on it. I force 
the install and then install the devel package. As for the other dependency 
problems I found it a matter of taking note and tracking down the libs etc 
that were required. Look at the error messages carefully. they tell you 
exactly what the problem is.
I've been using the latest packages from cooker on top of the 7.2 mandrake 
beta that had the 1.93 packages. After a lot of fiddling and dowloading extra 
little bits it has all been worth it. 

My system is very stable and  I haven't enjoyed myself so much in years
