Hi All,

>From the posts, it seems to be that *everybody* had and still having problems
with KDE2 final on Mandrake.

If there is anyone who installed KDE2 final on a MDK7.1 system without any
problems, please let me know how...

I know, that normally only the problems get posted, but I think this time we
need someone who post a working solution...

I cannot beleive that there is no way to install KDE2 without loosing sound,
screwing up systems, and already working programs..

I have a wonderfully working Mandrake 7.1 distribution with a lot of
hand-editing for config files, customizing things etc.

I also have KDE 1.2 installed in a usual Mandrake/Redhat places. I would
like to install KDE 2.0 final into /opt/kde2 to try it, and use konqueror,
kmail etc.

My questions are:

How can I put KDE2 final onto /opt/kde2 ?

Do I need to uninstall KDE1.2 (which is all over /usr/bin) first?

I do not mind to compile qt and KDE, or make it using RPMs, but I want to be
sure, that If something gets screwed up I do not have to reinstall my MDK7.1.
(I suspect that if I compile the aborted compilation does not screw up KDE
1.2?! Anyone have a comment?)

Mandrake rpms are available, I know, but
i) they are for 7.2 - I do not want to upgrade my system.
ii) they will go to /usr/bin and I want it to be /opt/KDE2...

Can anyone give me and advice what would be the safest way to go?!

Thanks in advance

Viktor
