You can copy back most of the personal data (/home/*) with no
problem. Some data may not be portable, and I would be wary of dot files
for programs, etc. Especially KDE, given the change from 1.x to 2.x and
how it has cause such problems for some folks here.

The config files, such as those in /etc, should not be copied en
mass. Instead, the new and old config files should be carefully compared
and features slowly migrated with careful testing. (Emacs' diff facility is
great for this.)
