   I did with no problems on 7.2/2.4.2.    db3-3.1.17-1mdk.src.rpm   
The src rpm creates 3 db3 rpms
db3-3.1.17-1mdk
db3-utils-3.1.17-1mdk
db3-devel-3.1.17-1mdk
