Actually, I do as follows:
-Boot the machine; it comes up to my root login in text mode. (I have it set
this way)
-Run startx to go into my desktop (KDE).
-Finished with xsession, click on K , then logout.
-X goes away, expect text prompt , screen stays black monitor goes to sleep.
I can restart X with startx , or type reboot and it will, can do a shutdown
too. The machine isn't locked up, it just loses video.
I tried alt-F1, ctrl-alt-F1, F2 etc, still no video.
May try a reinstall.
