The driver is not statically built in, but it is available as a module.
If you have a 3Ware older than the 7000 series, mandrake shuld just
support it.   If you are using a 7000 series it's necessary to specify
'Expert' and choose the driver.

A warning: I encountered severe performance problems with mandrake 8.0
and a 3Ware 7000 series kernel.  No data loss, but multiple-minute
stalls.  Nothing a kernel replacement shouldn't fix though.
