I had the same kinda thing with mdk 7.1.

Typing xhost + localhost in a term fixed stuff.

Never *did* figure out EXACTLY what was happening..

Love Linux.. Just got SOOO much to learn.

Have you tried xhost localhost?
as it looks like ownership only.
