Your email was pretty specific, but I just don't get one thing.  Is it the
LM8.1 client machines that you want to fix?

The /etc/resolv.conf will be overwritten by the dhcp server.  On your
LM8.1 server, you can specify the hosts you wish to use, via the
dhcpd.conf file.  So, if your problem is the client pc's, just fix the
dhcpd.conf file on your server.

If the problem is your ISP overwriting the /etc/resolv.conf file, then
there are other things you need to look at.  You mentioned a ppp
conection.  In this case, the resolv.conf file should only be overwritten
during the ppp connection, via a temp file, and then restored when the
connection is brought down.
