I often have seen advice to the fact that keeping even the home partition 
while reinstalling distros will, on the one hand keep your personal data 
intac, on the other hand you will retain the settings relating to users for a 
previous version of the software. 
since it seems to me that linux aims for the "state of the art -free" In 
linux there are often a number of differences between versions. heck M$ 
winblows 3.1 and 9.x have a lot of programs that don't make the "upgrade" and 
it ain't seemless to jump from 95 to XP workstation. 
So did you ever get it straightened out? are we still _sure_ it was an irq 
problem? 
sorry about not snipping off the rest, but I ain't really sure Albert's 
problem is fixed, and I sure hope everyone gets to enjoy useing GNU-linux as 
much as I do. [boy that sounded sick..I need a life] I always need the whole 
story, don't read the rest if it boors you, and I apologize in advance to the
