Yes, I do.... BUT.... how does this differ from M$' "reboot your system"
approach?

My point is that there is a LOT of Mdk code that "just works" when there
are no errors... let something happen outside that "perfect space" and
all hell breaks loose... To wit, all my updates over DSL went fine; doing
the exact same steps over a modem... (see original post)

I came to Linux (and Mandrake) years ago because things got fixed; now it
seems that everything is only being made to work in the "perfect space" in
order to pump out the most candy, anything else is thrown into the
"reboot" bucket... That's what I'm complaining about and that's what IMO
is the core problem with why Mdk is not getting market share as fast as it
could... Heck... the mere fact that I'm reconsidering my choice of distro
is deeply troubling to me -- I hate the idea going back to RH; but if RH
proves to me that their error recovery works, then it will mean that while
RH may not have all the eye-candy Mdk does, the choice will be between
which distro "sucks less" IMO:
Mdk -- too many errors that are ignored...
RH -- less candy; but it works...
Guess which will get picked at this rate...

I can't be the only one that thinks like this... If I am, then Mdk's
future is not assured IMO...

Pierre

PS: There were a number of problems for which there is no recovery in my
post, and this morning, MU claims everything is up-to-date while
"rpm -qa | grep kde" gives:
