I answered this one already I thought.

The issue is that lilo.conf is defined to use /boot/vmlinuz by default.
/boot/vmlinuz is a symlink to the current highest installed version.  So
when you install a new version, that symlink gets changed to point to
the NEW one, leaving nothing pointing at the old one.

The fix for this is to use the full file name in lilo.conf (ie
/boot/vmlinuz-2.4.19-16mdk instead of just /boot/vmlinuz).

Make sure to run lilo after making the changes in lilo.conf.
