Are the keyboard lights blinking? 99% likely to be a hardware problem, temperature or insufficient power. Install lm_sensors and see what it tells you. Another possibility is a driver problem in the kernel, but actual lock-up-and-crash bugs (as opposed to gradually slow down or leak memory) usually get caught during development.
