Whatever the case, journaling filesystems such as XFS, and similar systems such as ReiserFS (which I have been told is not, technically, a true journaling system) are infinitely preferable to ext2 in terms of speed and reliability (especially due to crashes).

I really had my own problems with ext3 and lots of files and directories (MP3) it's really slow.

Have all the problems ReiserFS had with NFS been fixed? The last time

system (despite many protestations by Herr Reiser on their web site
hereall NFS problems had been resolved!).What problems? I must have missed that one - been using NFS and Reiser
under 9.0 and 9.1 with no problems that I'm aware of.Remember when that 3GB of pr0n disappeared? That was because of Reiser.

No that was marriage. Not Reiser. Hans had nothing to do with it it. *grin*. I've lost a ton of data under ext3 but not a shred under Reiser or XFS.
