I use both, and both have been reliable since Mandrake 9.0 in my experience. XFS seems to be faster for large files, and so I use it at work. I use ReiserFS at home, as it seems to be better for fast small file access. However, the difference isn't huge. Some colleagues seems to have found that XFS is better for samba/windows interoperability, but I have no great experience with this. Apparently these advantages will be more evidence when samba 3.0 becomes more commonplace.

Whatever the case, journaling filesystems such as XFS, and similar systems such as ReiserFS (which I have been told is not, technically, a true journaling system) are infinitely preferable to ext2 in terms of speed and reliability (especially due to crashes).

I really had my own problems with ext3 and lots of files and directories
(MP3) it's really slow.

Have all the problems ReiserFS had with NFS been fixed? The last time

looked, which was a while ago, there were still threads on the

all NFS problems had been resolved!).

What problems? I must have missed that one - been using NFS and Reiser

here

under 9.0 and 9.1 with no problems that I'm aware of.

Remember when that 3GB of pr0n disappeared? That was because of Reiser.

No that was marriage. Not Reiser. Hans had nothing to do with it it. *grin*. I've lost a ton of data under ext3 but not a shred under Reiser or XFS.
