Anne, I am presently running apcupsd, and if I recall, it required nothing more than rpm -Uvh acp.....rpm on my 7.2 box. It has been running since '01 without a hickup. The trick is to figure out what information your APC box will deal out. (Whether it is a "smart" APC or not) Then just set (or play around with the UPS type in the config to get the maximum amount of info) The type of "cable" and the pin assignments are an issue, but there is plenty of info on this on the web.
