Not the Germans, but the American Military actually did! I spent some time being liason officer to a USAF group due to the fact that Germans are not allowed control over nuclear weapons. I was in artillery and the unit was shooting nuclear grenades which were under control of a USAF unit. Long time ago, that is. In the 60ies, 20th century. BTW, ed, it's 'wobo', not WoBo.
