Combining the info at that URL with a Knoppix disk allowed me to build a dual-boot system. For those that care, here is what I did. (Warning: it ain't pretty, and doubtless there are better/cleverer ways, but this worked). Starting position: laptop (IBM T40) with XP Pro installed. The XP is networked, but has no floppy. 1. Install Mdk 9.2. (in my case, / is on /dev/hda5). 2. Towards the end of the installation, install the bootloader to /, NOT to the MBR 3. Boot Knoppix. 4. NFS mount a remote filesystem. 5. Copy the first 512 octets of /dev/hda5 to a file in the remote filesystem (using dd). 6. Boot into XP 7. Copy the file created in step 5 to c:\linux.lnx 8. Edit c:\boot.ini so that it contains the line c:\linux.lnx="Mandrake 9.2" at the end 9. Reboot. You are now given a choice of Windows or Mandrake at boot time. Thanks again for the pointers.
