I sent the following e-mail to the functionaries of Central Florida Region
as well as the CRB about combining SRF, F500 & FV into a race group at
Daytona next month.

Subject: Daytona National/ECR Race Groupings

Central Florida Region has scheduled a National/ECR event for May 6-7, 2006.
The race groupings as identified by the race announcement have SRF, FV &
F500 all in one grouping. I cannot think of a more dangerous grouping of
cars, from an organization that preaches SAFETY. With SRF's having a
minimum weight of 1670 pounds (2 times +70 pounds the weight of an F500 and
outweighing and FV by 645 pounds) as well as the restricted rearward
visibility of the SRF's, this grouping is an incident looking for a place to
happen and the mass of the SRF's insure that the non-SRF that is involved
will be the loser. Additionally the size of the SRF's blocks the view of
Formula Drivers from anything that is taking place beyond the SRF, analogus
to being in a sub-compact on the Interstate and being surrounded by Box Vans
and 53 foot box trailers. This grouping is not based upon 'straggling'
participation. In 2005 there were 34 SRF's that participated in their own
class race; there were 13 F500's & FV's that competed in an 18 car class
with FF's. In 2004 the numbers were 41 SRF's and 20 F500's & FV's.

It would appear to me, that Central Florida Region does not desire the
participation of the Club Members that drive the lower powered Formula cars
and is doing it's best to insure that none, or very few participate in this
event. As a dues paying and participating driver in the SCCA SEDIV National
Program I resent a Restricted Regional ECR event being the tail that wags
the dog of a National event. For the ECR cars to be given 4 hours 10
minutes of timed track time and then cramming the National race groupings
into unsafe groupings is a corruption of the National Racing Program.

It is patently unsafe to combine a well subscribed class of large, heavy,
slow cars with a reasonably well subscribed class of smaller, lighter and
faster cars.
