The only argument I have against the price of a HANS device is the fact that
no other device works, which makes the HANS device a monolpy.
You can kid yourself and buy a Hutchsons , or the R3, but the only one that
works is the HANS, so they can charge whatever they want...

the over 10 years of research, testing, building prototypes, more testing,
building molds, more molds for each size & angle, etc that went into the
development of the HANS & ALL ON THEIR OWN NICKLE. I guarantee you that
they are not getting rich on this deal. The number of sales are still in
the low thousands & the costs of carbon & the mold costs for these parts is
enormous. Dr. Hubbard still works part time at Michigan State & Jim Downing
is still running his composite business. You guys who are complaining about
costs will spend all you can get to go .5 sec quicker but complain when you
have to spend money to protect you life.

Bob Hubbard & Jim Downing have contributed more, in the last 15 years, to
racer safety than anyone else.

Thanks ... Jay Novak

I wonder how much HANS makes on each device. Personally I think that
Mandatory Saftey equipment should not be a get rich quick thing. Why does a
HANS 30 cost more than a 20? More open wheel racers will buy the HANS
device
thats why. Yes the HANS device is a great product, and I will still be
getting one, but $1135 for something called an 'economy' model is silly. I
believe a HANS should cost no more than $700 for any model. The reason they
can charge so much is that inorder to be safe we need to buy one because no
other device performs nearly as well. I guess inorder to get the best you
must pay a premium.

Sterling is
responsible in more ways than one for the Hans device....

Better yet, why should I SPEND ALL THAT MONEY

A few years ago, Sterling Marlin
smacked a wall while wearing a HUTCHINS
device. After
missing a few races
(and taking himself out of CUP contention) he
returned wearing a HANS
device.
I'll leave it to you to figure out what that means.
A few years ago, I
involved Dr. Hubbard in discussions on this forum.
I haven't tried yet but
I'm quite certain that those threads could be reviewed by searching the
F-500
website archives.
How about this? "If you've got a ten dollar head, wear a ten
dollar
helmet". Look, I know as
well as anyone how expensive it is to race
but think about this. If you
wreck tomorrow and can't
walk, who is going to
support your family? If a HANS device could
prevent that situation,
wouldn't
you do anything you could to prevent it?

BTW, Since 2000, the
only thing @ Team NovaKar that hasn't changed is
the team principals
and
Brian Novak's HANS device.

Gentlemen (& Ladies) if
you are not wearing a HANS you must be kidding
yourself about the rest of
your life. If you can't afford a HANS then
you can't afford to race. Every
major body requires HANS or a similar
device. Yes, we know by every test that
it prevents BSF. Common sense
should tell you a rigid support that rest atop
your shoulders will help
in a compression type injury, although your roll
hoop and belts should
have eliminated most concerns in that area. And should
you ever get T
Boned the Hans will greatly aid in not allowing your neck to
"twist" or
"torque" too far. The device in a frontal, or side impact crash
disperses the load (G) on to the rest of your body. Remember, BSF can
happen
in the low 40 mph. In a kart, the mechanics are different. You
are not
strapped by 5-6 pts in a Kart or street car.
I survived a terrible crash @
TMS. The HANS did its job. I believed in
the device so much my wife and I now
sell the devices to other racers.
If you need a HANS, call me or your local
dealer. Visit the SFI &
various other rating sites. HANS is by far the best.
We all have lives outside of racing. If you wear the right gear, you may
enjoy both sides a little more.
