Removing >r/r> makes the language simpler. We used to have two
features that did the same thing: now we have one.

is exactly equivalent to

[ ... ] dip

Language simplicity is a good goal but it is not an end in itself. If
you take simplicity to the extreme, you get R5RS scheme or even S/K
combinator calculus -- the latter makes it is impossible to implement
anything. On the other extreme you have C++ and Perl 6... let's try to
find a middle ground.
