Yes, the change is permanent.  It's the best way to have a console app  
and a native app and switch between them.  The alternative is to do a  
lot of parsing of the factor.image filename to figure out which to  
load.  Only the developer will ever need to deal with the two  
executables anyway -- a binary package will have one or the other.
