I don't believe it's *mere* placebo, because that tends to
diminish in time, IMO. At least I've noticed that when
I occasionally use some "real" drugs, like for instance
antihistamines. I guess almost all drugs have placebo 
as a part of their effect.

For instance, I've been using those small Elekiban magnets
to avoid mild lower back pain, for at least 15 years, and
they still seem to work.

And even if it was placebo, I don't care. Placebo is, I believe, a
real effect based on, well, shraddhaa (faith).

As Patañjali sez, for most people asaMprajñaata-samaadhi(?) is:

shraddhaa-viirya-smRti-samaadhi-prajñaa-puurvaka itareSaam (I 20)

Taimni's translation:

(In the case) of others, (upaaya-pratyaya-yogis) it [asaMprajñaata-
samaadhi? - card] is preceded by faith, energy, memory and high
intelligence necessary for /samaadhi/. :D
