AIG is solvent and a good portion of its business has value. For
example, the insurance part of its business is doing fine.  That is
why the bailout of AIG will probably work.  It will be able to sell
off the good stuff over the next two years.  

Lehman, in contrast, was insolvent.  A bailout made no sense whatsoever.
