I think it would be safe to say that the mantras were made up by MahaPrakriti or Mother Nature, she created everything material using the Maha Mantra AUM from which all of creation and mantras come forth. She herself being the embodiment of that Sound, it's called the 'string theory' in quantum mechanics. Beyond sound is the Purusha........
