Well, except for the part about the guy who thought he would be Shankaracharya 
getting upset. The person who eventually was picked by committee wasn't picked 
until weeks later. It is possible that Swami Swarupananda Saraswati, the guy 
who was picked thirty years later, thought he would be the new Shankaracharya, 
but he had only been a student of SBS for a few years at that time, and prior 
to that he had been a freedom fighter/terrorist/irregular militia fighting the 
British.

Hard to imagine that he thought he was next in line.
