For the same reason the Clinton name was tainted which worked against Hillary. A lot of Dems didn't want 4 or 8 years of whining from the Republicans again. Of course they got that and more from the GOP with Obama.
It's time to bury capitalism in the pages of history. It isn't well suited for a planet of 7 billion but convincing the public who will be snowed by the pirates of the economy is about impossible. The public just does not seem to be bright enough or evolved enough to understand the issues not that it couldn't be presented simply enough for them to understand.
