Well, maybe I would have! - but I don't need to as I can afford to buy myself a new TV any time I want one. So could most of the smirkers I witnessed. That's what they don't register: it's easy to feel self-satisfied when you've got a loaded wallet. It's those who suffer from grinding poverty yet who would never consider turning to crime that have earned the right to be considered virtuous.
