Steve's just being protective, because other than himself Emily is the only member of the old Mean Girls Club who still comes to FFL to do "Get Barry" drive-bys. Steve liked the MGC days, because it was a perfect cover for never having anything intelligent to say. All he had to do was wait for the latest MGC attack, then pile on and say, "Yeah, isn't he horrible!" or "Yeah, that ___ sure is terrible, all right!"
