Stock up on your survival gear. Survival is the struggle to remain living. Hardly anyone is prepared for surviving a catastrophic event. You'd want to at least have water to drink for your family, right?
In order to survive, you'd need not only water and fire, but fuel and food. Some folks around here have cellars stocked with canned goods and all the needed food stuff in order to survive for several weeks. Most people probably wouldn't last a week, at most. Keep in mind that all the store shelves will probably be empty by the 2nd day. So, stock up on potable water, food, fuel, and other resources. In a major disaster if we lost electric power for a year or two, you'd want to have some arms on you as well. Go figure.
