As far as "not taking many years to get there if you have the right technique",
I think you need to add "and if you are very close" as well. Krishna says in
the Gita "only after many life times of this practice does one come to Me." I
know, I know, M explains that away as equating life times with times
transcended. Quite frankly, I think that is BS unless you are on the cusp of
enlightenment. M admits that that verse has traditionally caused discouragement
to even attempt the path. The duty of a master is to encourage the disciple,
even if he has to lie a little bit. M said in Hotel Samoa one night, to "treat
the lies of the enlightened as pearls of wisdom." There is a story in one
Purana in which a student asks his master , how long till my enlightenment? The
master looked up at the great tree they sat under and said "as many leaves that
are on this tree". The student became overjoyed since the leaves could be
counted, maybe in the tens of thousands!

Once you're "established" in yoga then you perform action. That means you
might not need to meditate regularly anymore. The transcendent is with you all
the time. Usually it does not take many years to get there if you have the
right technique.

Dear Geez, It seems like with other things you know serious meditators when
you see [sit with] them. SRF/Yogananda meditators it seems are well cultivated
as serious practicing silent meditators. They are gathering for their annual
'convocation' this month in the LA area. They gather 5,000 or so meditators
for their group meditations during convocation. In Fairfield we will have a
