@ 41:50 by Geoff Gilpin, author of “The Maharishi Effect”

“When I came back in 2000, TM was almost an afterthought. I felt that the
Movement and Maharishi weren’t just really interested in teaching meditation
that much anymore. And instead they had this vast array of products and
services pretty much for every aspect of human life.”

My opinion is that this point expresses, in the evolution of the TM Movement,
where the reality of the definite and clear benefits of Transcendental
Meditation were overshadowed by 'the Empire', if I may use that term, of which,
apparently, Transcendental Meditation was but a part.

If all of the paraphernalia of the present Empire had been left to
third-parties for those who are interested in it, and if Maharishi had
separated himself and Transcendental Meditation from all of the add-ons, I
believe that today this world would be far more positively affected by the
effects of people practicing Transcendental Meditation than it presently is.

There are a number of reasons as to why I assume this, some of which are:

 * If all of the money generated from teaching Transcendental Meditation was
reserved solely and only in the promotion of the teaching of Transcendental
Meditation, then there would be a far larger take-up of Transcendental
Meditation by people because it would be far cheaper and therefore more readily
affordable and not at a cost which, no doubt, has deterred many from taking up
Transcendental Meditation.

 * Regardless of the theories, I believe that a meditator entering the
Transcendent in one country and another meditator entering the Transcendent in
different country is as beneficial the world, if not more so due to local
influence, than two meditators entering the Transcendent in the same
geographical locality. The Transcendent is the Transcendent and it transcends
physical space - the effect is there.

 * I believe that a number of people in the world today might be more likely to
take up Transcendental Meditation if it was not inseparably associated with
some breakout Eastern philosophies or theories which are expressed as the
pinnacle of knowledge, whereas they may only contain some partial or basic
truth available elsewhere but in a different format - and besides not agreeable
with the one considering taking up Transcendental Meditation.
