In fact, most TMers  first report witnessing sleep BEFORE they report witnessing waking  state. Such was MY experience, and many others, IIRC. There are no rules, everyone is different. The only thing that distinguishes it from waking state is simply the odd feeling of being awake when you thought you should be asleep--but then TM witnessing or CC is not the same as lineal CC--at least according to Dr. Pete.
