Hi John, I've been meditating (TM) 2x every day since 1975, and 
experienced insomnia from time to time. I've found that some 
vigorous exercise like jogging a few miles really helps. Also, I 
don't know what your diet is like, but have also found that some 
heavier food helps the sleep issue. As for the mantras being names 
of the gods, I just never think about my mantra in that way. I don't 
use the mantra as a literal word. Perhaps I would be self conscious 
about it if it were an English word, but isn't, so I am not.

One thing common to a lot of meditators early on is that little 
things in life just aren't the same. The TMO tends to focus on the 
overtly positive ones, like greater energy and clarity. A side 
effect of this might be an increasing tendency towards insomnia. The 
best thing to do is just not pay it much mind. You've learned a 
great technique which will lead you to yourself, in all of your 
glory. Congratulations!
